Keeping your lawn and water supply green can be done all at the same time. Here are five tips to efficiently water your lawn without being wasteful:
1. Do not overwater. This can cause pest problems and overwatering your lawn may even kill the grass.
2. Water between the hours of 5am and 10am, the earlier the better. Avoid watering in the afternoon or evenings.
3. Water your whole lawn. Make sure you spread irrigation across every blade of grass, missing spots can stunt the growth of those areas. If you’re using a sprinkler system, make sure it is not one that overshoots your lawn and wastes water by spreading it into the street, sidewalk, or neighbor’s lawn.
4. If you use fertilizer or mulch in nearby areas, wait a few days and let the fertilizer dilute a little before watering to make sure these high strength chemicals don’t mix into your lawn and cause damage.
5. The rain is your friend. There is no reason to water your lawn after late night or early morning rainfall. This can help you save your lawn and your water supply.
Following these five tips can help you do your part by keeping your lawn green and healthy while keeping your water bill and consumption down.
